What's in a name?

What’s in a name? When I was a child, my mother said. "when people call you Black, I feel as though it makes me nothing to do with you, you are Brown". I always called myself Brown, as my White mother brought me up, my Black father was absent from an early age. It wasn’t until decades later that I knew why I was instinctively not happy with Brown, despite really wanting to please my mother. Its a dilemma many of us face.
